DezTech Joins Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce!

We recently joined the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce (HBCOC) and are excited to be a member of such a great group of businesses. I attended my first chamber event today at Jaqu's in Westminster (Target Shopping Center on Beach north of Heil) and it was a great experience. I met a lot of new local contacts and my belief in personal networking was again strengthened as I believe it to be the most effective way to share business contacts, exchange referrals, and become more successful. In our 10+ years in business I can definitely say that the VAST majority of our clients have come from referrals of some sort and we're looking forward to a new stream of contacts that we can help with their websites, intranets, and database systems.

Thanks to all the HBCOC members that I met today, I hope to be in close contact with you all!

Newly Redesigned WilsonCreekWinery.com Website Launched

A brand new completely redesigned WilsonCreekWinery.com website launched tonight. Wilson Creek Winery has been a long time client of ours and this is their second website project with us.

The new design features large, stunning photos and a more robust navigation to make the site easier to navigate now that it has grown to more than twice its original size from the first site launch. In addition to the new asthetic design, a more modern technical design was applied utilizing the latest technologies and best practices for website development.

New features include a new online store, better Wine Club integration, a greatly expanded Weddings/Events/Concerts section, as well as an integrated website Administration Dashboard to help the Wilson's manage as much of their website as possible.

So if you're ever in Temecula, stop by for a glass of amazing wine and complement them on their new website! EasyFrameOnline.com Online Framing Site Launched

The EasyFrameOnline.com website was built from the ground up with Excel Picture Frames to give their photographer customers a way to showcase their photography work within Excel's catalog of products. The EasyFrameOnline.com website is closely tied with Excel ExcelPictureFrames.com website sharing user information and allowing Framing Packages configured on EasyFrameOnline.com to be ordered through the ExcelPictureFrames.com ecommerce site.

EasyFrameOnline.com works by allowing photographers to set up their own customers and photography project within the software so that they can prepare finished package for them. Photographers can create simple Wall Frame Packages or more advanced packages. The Custom Presentation Packages available through the website allow for complex Framing Packages using a wide variety of mouldings, liners, mats, and fillets to dress up the photographer's photograph. The Excel Multi-Opening Packages are stunning creations featuring several photographs in a format containing a moulding and double-mat.

The dynamic framing capabilities of this new online tool are a great benefit to Excel and their photographers we hope to be able to continually add features to the site as time goes on.

DezTech Launches New ExcelPictureFrames.com Ecommerce Site

Excel Picture Frames, Inc. is one of our oldest clients and had been using one of our oldest active sites, dating back to about 1999. The site housed over 10,000 distinct Excel products and did pretty well for itself with a great search engine ranking and a lot of traffic. Not bad for a site that was almost 10yrs old! But it's time for something new...

Excel's new ExcelPictureFrames.com website is built using great new ecommerce technology with BV Software's BVC5 Ecommerce Platform. We wrote a grueling custom application to port over all of there 10K+ product records and defined different rules for different product types to take advantage of BVC5's great flexibility. The platform also features a wide array of features that we've partly implemented and will continue to further implement over time.

This flexibility will also prove to be invaluable when we launch Excel's much-anticipated EasyFrameOnline.com website! The EasyFrameOnline.com website will utilize their ecommerce site's membership database for logins and the site's product database for product information. The details of EasyFrameOnline.com will come in a future post, but know that it's been a great example of utilizing great pre-packaged platforms to construct a complicated overall solution.

Google continues to amaze me! They recently launched a FREE new 411 service that you can call from your cell phone. It's completely voice automated and gives you the options to have information about what you were looking for sent to your cell phone as a text message. And if your phone has internet, they can also send your phone a map of the business you called about.

So next time you're out and about and need information, don't use your cell phone provider's 411 that will likely cost nearly $2 a call, call 1-800-GOOG-411 and get what you need text messaged directly to your cell phone for free.

Increased SPAM Filtering Added to Our Mail Server

We spent a considerable amount of time today trying to improve our mail server's spam settings to try and prevent more spam from reaching our server. Andres and I agree that SPAM and the problems it causes our mail server are our biggest technical problem we face as a company. And we're not alone either...

I've recently received a couple calls from clients that host their own email asking for advice on how to best minimize spam. Outside of our family of clients, the Internet as a whole is being choked with spam. Any source of spam stats will show what a huge problem it is.

We'll keep an eye on our recent improvements to see if they in fact do reduce spam. So far the changes have been in place a few hours and I already think I see a reduction in spam (I get A TON of spam because my email is on several public websites both for my business and my clients).

Google is Great!

I just wanted to openly assert that I think Google is great! Their search engine has been tops since it came out and that was so long ago I cannot even remember anymore. But, aside from being a great search engine, they offer SO MANY other great services. As a Web Developer we're constantly looking for new services to make our lives easier and help us create better website for our clients. Google is CONSTANTLY giving us the tools to allow this!

We've recently begun setting up Google's web traffic statistics package called Google Analytics for some clients and it's amazing. If you're a client and would like it set up for you just ask us!

Of course we're also a fan of their blogging service too... ;)

Happy New Year! Our 10th Year...

Happy New Year to All!!!

We wish everyone a properous new year and are excited that this will be our 10th year in business. I think that's like a hundred in web-years!

Back then the web was NOTHING like it is today. IE was barely even around and Netscape Navigator reigned supreme. Animated GIFs were about as fancy as things got for most sites and not too many people had broadband connections, especially outside the office.

Now things are bigger and better and the future is bright! I read another blog called Mashable.com that talks about a lot of exciting new happenings around the web, especially in the social networking arena. I'll mention some of their content here from time-to-time throughout the year, but know that change is happening at a head-spinning pace!
